FAQs

  • All four of Stockholm's airports are connected to downtown by airport coaches as well as municipal alternatives.

From Stockholm Arlanda-Airport, you can also choose the high-speed train service Arlanda Express. The train only takes 20 min to central Stockholm. It’s also the most expensive mode of transport.

There are local (SL) buses that go from Arlanda to commuter train stations. While this is the longer, more complicated and less glamorous mode of transport, it’s INCLUDED in your SL travel pass if you choose to purchase such. More about SL is below.

  • The easiest way to get around is by public transport (SL).

You can/should download the app as well: (SL - Planner and tickets for iOS & SL - Planner and tickets for Android )

You can buy an SL card at metro stations/shops with the SL flag and charge it, or you can buy tickets in ticket machines in some stations. Different artists decorate most stations.

The Stockholm underground system is considered to be “the world’s most extended art gallery”. Some stations are more impressive than others: ARTICLE.

You can't use cash to buy a ticket, and you have to buy your ticket in advance. Read more about the public transport system here: SL.

    Fare-specific information HERE.

The categories that might apply to you are:

24 hours: SEK 165 (14 EURO) (adult fare); SEK 110 (discounted fare)

72 hours: SEK 330 (28 EURO) (adult fare); SEK 220 (discounted fare)

7 days: SEK 430 (36 EURO) (adult fare); SEK 290 (discounted fare).

Any of these gives you access to buses, boats, trams, Tunnelbanan (Subway/Underground) and commuter trains. You can get single-trip tickets via the app, but they aren't very economical. Download the apps BEFORE you get to Stockholm and set up your payment cards and such.

Here’s a handy MAP of the Stockholm public transport system.

  • Our venues are a bit spread out across the city of Stockholm. Check the map. Visit Stockholm is an excellent resource for visiting artists!

Make your Stockholm stay as green as possible! Can you walk? Can you cycle or use a scooter?

If you want to cycle, maybe rent one? Sometimes hostels and hotels have their own bicycles as well. A few options: Gamla Stans Cykel / Stockholm Adventures & Rent-a-bike

A few electric scooter companies: Voi or Bolt.

  • Taxis: In general, taxis are super expensive in Stockholm. ONE ride will cost you as much as a public transport card fare for seven days—more INFO.

All taxis can be booked via an app, online, over the phone or hailed down the street. Beware of dodgy companies and pushy operators. The apps will give you fixed rates. Especially to/from the airport.

Most used and rather trusted cab companies:

Taxi Stockholm ( Taxi Stockholm for iOS & Taxi Stockholm for Android)

SverigeTaxi (also called TAXI 020) (Taxi 020 for iOS & Taxi 020 for Android)

Taxi Kurir (Taxi Kurir for iOS & Taxi Kurir for Android)

Most of taxi companies have apps, and they work well.

    Private hire:

BOLT (Bolt for iOS & Bolt for Android)

UBER ( Uber for iOS & Uber for Android)

If you use one of these apps overseas, they should work in Sweden too, with no need to register or link your payment options again.

  • Sweden is a reasonably cashless society. Be prepared for that! Almost no places, except large grocery stores, accept cash. You always use your debit/credit card.

Beware of the fact that most Stockholm Fringe Festival (#STOFF2023) venues are cashless as well! Plan your trip in advance. Book your tickets online.

  • There are loads of great places in Stockholm to enjoy a little refreshment. One of them is #STOFF2023 venue FREYJA + SÖDER, open from 14:00-00:00 every day of the week! Loads of our venues either have on-site options for drinks and snacks or are nearby bars and restaurants.

If you fancy a non-bar/club-purchased % drink, please be aware that Sweden doesn’t have bottle shops (alcohol vendors) open 24/7. Nor are they open all days of the week. The one-stop shop for this purpose is the government monopoly SYSTEMBOLAGET, which is frequently called “Bolaget” or “Systemet”.

    Opening hours:

    MON-FRI 10 am (10:00) to 7 pm (19:00).

    SAT 10 am (10:00) to 3 pm (15:00).
